Which fish to catch
Installation, Sant’Antonio pier, Bari, 2011
“Which fish to catch” is a project realized by ilmotorediricerca for amarelarte 2011, Bari.
“Which fish to catch” is an italian way of saying that one is insecure of what to do. For this project a part of the fish market on the pier of Saint Antonio in Bari, temporarily closed because of the 2 months ban on fishing in the Adriatic sea, has been reactivated as a social device: a place that doesn’t sell fish but collects stories of people who’s surname is the name of a fish. Adele Dentice (Snapper) presented her book “Denied water”; Vito Sardella (Pilchard) talked about his family history related to the sea; Pietro Balena (Whale) showed his business with international overseas trade; other protagonists were Pasquale Persico (Perch), Andrea Merluzzo (Cod), Antonella Delfino Pesce (Dolphin Fish), Agostino Cefalo (Mullet), and Michele Ricci (Urchins). At the end of the ban on fishing, Ulderico Pesce (Fish), theater actor and director, told us his “Fish’s tales”, transforming with his performance the fish market into a theater stage.
